One of the best ways to receive timely balloon information and participate in discussions is through the Balloon E-Mail List. This message system takes every message sent to it and "reflects" it back to all members of the list via e-mail. You should be prepared to receive plenty of mail if you join the reflector. There are currently about 1,200 people worldwide subscribed to the list, a high number of whom are generally silent. The group discusses topics in relation to Lighter Than Air aircraft, including Hot Air Balloons, Gas Balloons, Airships, and Hot Air Airships. There have been factual posts, news updates, technical discussions, requests for advice/information and reports from ballooning events around the world.
The reflector is not recommended for casual e-mail users. You could receive 30 or more messages per day. You can, of course, unsubscribe at any time. We recommend that you subscribe first and read some of the posted messages, before you jump in with your own comments. This will give you a chance to experience the style and conventions of the reflector "neighborhood". For example, there is little very tolerance for callous remarks and abusive behavior. Commercial solicitations are frowned upon, and off-topic posts (politics, jokes, current non-ballooning events) are discouraged. This is not to say that the reflector is boring. Some balloonists are very opinionated, and many lively discussions do take place.

Type your email address and name into the first boxes on the page. Then scroll down and click "Subscribe". You will receive an email notice which requires your response. That's all there is to it. You will start receiving balloon mail in your e-mail account. Remember, you may receive quite a bit of mail, but you can unsubscribe at any time.
To post a message to the list, send an e-mail to balloonmail@interaeroleague.com. There is often a lag after you send your very first message while your subscription gets reviewed and approved. Be patient, as this process helps to screen the list membership from casual outsiders. After you are approved, future messages to the list go through immediately.
If you ever want to QUIT receiving mail from this list, go back to:
Type your email address into the LAST box on the page and click "Unsubscribe or edit options". On the next page, click on "Unsubscribe". Please be sure you are sending the unsubscribe request from the same e-mail address you want unsubscribed! This prevents others from bumping you off the list.
