GEBA Long Jump Rules &
Guidelines
1. Long Jump Window: closed at this time
2. Pilots may choose to fly any of 3 "classes" of long jumps:
A. Solo: (all alone - one person in basket)
B. Tandem: (two people in basket)
C. Sump Jumper: Any of the above - carrying less than 40 gallons of fuel
3. Contest is the longest distance measured from launch site to the in-flight point where 30 gallons of fuel has been used. Ten (10) gallons of fuel will be reserved to ensure a safe
landing without danger of fuel exhaustion. That means you must have at least 40 gallons of fuel on-board to fly the long jump. Lesser amounts fall into the
Sump Jumper category.
Auxiliary fuel is permitted to inflate the balloon and bring it to equilibrium. (previously not allowed) Use of 30 gallons
begins at equilibrium for the measured flight. Fly the flight to a point measured and maintain enough fuel on reserve for a safe landing.
4. The Competition Committee recommends doing a practice jump in mild weather prior to a first jump attempt. If your confidence is marginal or you just want to have more fun, then
fly the TANDEM class. Fly with another pilot, or better yet, with a special crew person.
5. Pilots with less than 30 hours flight time are encouraged also encouraged to fly the TANDEM class with a more experienced pilot.
6. Take a camera and try to photograph the launch, landing and highlights. Celebrate the adventure. Buy or borrow a GPS. It provides real time information and lets you know how
the flight is going.
7. Report completed long jump attempts to the Competition Committee by mailing the Entry Form.
8. Results will be published in SKYWRITER and prizes will be awarded at the
May membership meeting.
